SAAC Basic Camp

Two days, a clear focus: better decisions in the backcountry
 

A SAAC Basic Camp lasts two days. The first day begins in the afternoon with around three hours of theory, whilst on the second day you head out into the backcountry with state-certified ski and mountain guides. The course focuses on avalanche awareness, weather, terrain features, danger levels, group dynamics and tour planning. During the practical session, participants practise risk management, hazard and terrain assessments, and, of course, searching for buried victims. The guides also take the opportunity to highlight the mountain environment and provide valuable tips and information on how people and nature can coexist harmoniously.
 

The camps are open to skiers and snowboarders aged 14 and over who are technically proficient enough to tackle off-piste terrain. The SAAC Snow Camps are free of charge, and emergency equipment can also be hired if required.
