Pedestrian zones

Biking helps us to be fit, improves our health and is one of the most popular sports in Austria. The hiking and biking region of Saalbach Hinterglemm offers over 400 km of marked hiking and biking trails on the mountain as well as in the valley, some of them that lead to the centre of the villages. Part of the trails are only for bikers or only for hikers, but there are also paths that are shared by both. In Saalbach and Hinterglemm, cycling is also allowed in the pedestrian zones.
Bicycle paths are integrated with the pedestrian zones in Saalbach Hinterglemm because of the lack of space near the valley. Mainly elderly people and families can feel threatened on narrow paths, hiking trails and pedestrian zones by bikers who are riding at high speed. We want hikers and bikers to get along well in the future and with your contribution, for all to have an enjoyable time in Saalbach Hinterglemm.

Rules for bikers:

  • Be tolerant of pedestrians despite the freedom of movement in Saalbach Hinterglemm.
  • Ride slowly, be cautious and look ahead in the pedestrian zones.
  • Ride at walking pace in the pedestrian zones.
  • Pedestrians have complete priority.
  • If you want to use the bell in pedestrian zone, you are already riding too fast.
  • In the mountains FAIR PLAY is also of utmost importance.

Please try to maintain harmonious interaction between bikers and pedestrians.

Even if cycling is allowed, pedestrians always have priority over bikers. This allows us to provide bikers with a comprehensive offer in Saalbach Hinterglemm.
