Flying Advent Market
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s… a flying Christmas market! Not possible? Think again! For 16 December will already mark the third time that Saalbach Hinterglemm’s Flying Advent Market launches into the sky!
Following the Bergfestival and the Rave on Snow, and beginning on the third Advent Sunday, things are set to get a little more festive around the Glemmtal valley. On 15 December, Hinterglemm’s mountain railway companies will start calling on both locals and visitors to join a unique kind of Christmas market experience: The 15 gondolas of the 12er Express will be remodelled into little Advent booths inside of which local exhibitors will set up their stands. Here, you will have the chance to purchase charming arts and crafts, high-quality local artworks, herbal products, local agricultural produce, as well as unusual and eccentric Christmas gifts.
Children will be able to occupy their time before the arrival of Santa Claus with face painting and handicrafting. As the parents nibble on tasty Christmas treats and sip on mulled wine and punch around the open fire, the kids will transform into little snow lions, tigers and kitty cats inside the warm valley station.
The Flying Advent Market is all about the following theme: Everything for a good cause. For the various programme events and the catering is offered completely free of charge. The voluntary donations go in their entirety to the “Geben für Leben” campaign — Austria’s leukaemia charity. So, here’s the plan for this year’s Flying Advent Market: Get in, taste, shop and head for the mountain station. There, you will be able to sample fine wines from the Polz Winery, enjoy cheese specialities by Pinzgau Milch and keep yourself warm with spirits offered by Pfarre Saalbach. Traditional “Weisenbläser” brass musicians will provide festive tunes, as locals and visitors alike get to enjoy the event with mulled wine, punch, Christmas fruit loaf and cookies.
