Chronology of the events surrounding the Coronavirus with focus on communication within the Tourism Association
March 5th 2020
In the late afternoon it became known that a member of a British travel group staying in a hotel in Saalbach Hinterglemm tested positive for the new Coronavirus.
The authorities immediately initiated a procedure in the wake of this event. The affected person and subsequently all members of the tour group were quarantined in the hotel. At the same time, official measures were taken to identify the possible risks concerning contact with others. The outcome was that the group had remained for the majority of time together, and that the person who fell ill had not left the hotel room for several days before and had even declined his room to be cleaned.
At the same time as the first Press Release form the Province of Salzburg (https://service.salzburg.gv.at/lkorrj/detail?nachrid=63064), info boxes were placed on the start pages of saalbach.com/en and saalbach.com/en, which were linked to this subpage on which known Corona infections were published, as well as further information on the local situation and links to the info portals of the Province of Salzburg, the Salzburger Land Tourism Association and the Ministry of Health.
By means of a newsletter, all member companies of the Tourism Association were immediately informed about the developments and referred to the website, so that they too could remain up-to-date with the official information of the Tourism Association in order to give updates to any queries from their guests. In the following days this was communicated time and time again by the way of reminders.
On the part of the hotel operator, guests due to arrive were informed about the situation and a free rebooking or cancellation was offered.

The results of the surveys were announced in the Press Release published by the Province of Salzburg (https://service.salzburg.gv.at/lkorrj/detail?nachrid=63069). Relevant information was updated on the website.

This information was added to the website.
On the evening of March 12th 2020, the Salzburg State Government, with the full support of all Salzburg's ski resorts, made a mutual decision to bring the winter season to an early end. Alois Hasenauer (Mayor of Saalbach Hinterglemm), Wolfgang Breitfuß (Director of the Tourism Association) and Heinz Fuchs (Chairman of the Tourism Association) were present at the meeting with Governor Dr. Wilfried Haslauer.
The ski area should remain open until March 15th, accommodation until March 16th at the latest. This information was immediately published on the website that same evening and communicated via social media channels. The chronology of the cases of illness became obsolete by this final measure and was taken off the net. No further cases of illness were reported in Saalbach Hinterglemm until the close of the resort and departure of the last guests.

In direct communication with guests who asked questions about the situation on site via telephone, e-mail, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger or Instagram Direct, they were always referred to the information page or provided with information analogous to that published.
