Hobby bikers from twenty nations unite in Saalbach Hinterglemm for the 12th World Games of Mountainbiking.

Around thousand bikers determine the Amateur World Champion in the disciplines Marathon, Cross Country, Downhill and Dual-Eliminator.
With the brand new Joker Card all World Games competitors hold a trump card in their hands. Upon booking a World Games accommodation package in a Joker Card partner accommodation, the lift ticket is included among a lot of other benefits.
Olympic gold medalist honors amateur champions
This year a prominent guest will honor the worldgames champions in the marathon ceremony: ski champion Stefan Eberharter. The triple World Champion, Olympic Champion and two-time overall World Cup Champion celebrated his career breakthrough at the World Alpine Ski Championships 1991 in Saalbach Hinteglemm as double World Champion.
Live-Timing on <link http://www.worldgames.at/>www.worldgames.at

For the first time at the World Games of Mountain Biking all marathon times are transmitted over the Internet, so those who stayed at home and all spectaors can follow live, where the athletes are.
The Topography of the Pinzgauer Grass Mountains offers altitudes between 1,000 and 2,000 metres - an ideal setup for Marathonists. A total round of 80.44 Kilometres and an altitude of 3,678 metres which will challenge the strength and endurance of the Marathon participants. On the other hand “only” 42.77 Kilometres and height of 1,980 metres have to be tackled in the Half Marathon. Perfect for Marathon Novices is the shorter round with 31 Kilometres and an altitude of 1,160 metres.
The Spectators cheer on their heroes not only at the Finish line, but also on the highest points of the route, such as on the Zwölferkogel and on the Schattberg, where you will be entertained with Music. The Zwölferkogel and Schattberg are also easily reachable by the gondola lift for spectators and companions.
Pure Suspense by Cross Country! Alternating Up and Downhills and challenging Single trails throughout the 2,600Metre long circular course call for skill and endurance. Only who is fit enough to make the final sprint into the pedestrian area crossing the finishing line first is a well deserved World Games Champion! The finals of the Cross Country take place on Friday.
With Full-Speed to the podium! The varied Downhill course is 1,9 kilometers long and rises to an altitude of 498 meters through varied and, in some cases, quite demanding terrain on natural single trails, root and rock sections, jumps and hairpin bends back down to the centre of Hinterglemm.
Breathtaking action at the Dual-Eliminator: A brandnew Dual track was built at the Reiterkogel for the DAKINE Freeride Festival. So this year the Freeride-Eliminator is replaced by a Dual-Eliminator. Two Bikers start together on the twisty course at the bottom station of the Reiterkogel lift – that requests speed and tactics. Who will forge ahead in the first corner? Who has the better ellbow tactics? Only the fastest of each heat qualifies for the next round.

A highlight for Kids: the SCOTT USA Junior Trophy! For once a Mountainbike Race just like the adult’s race. Riding over the same finishing terrain as the Professionals. Cheered on by countless enthusiastic spectators. Get into the race atmosphere, it’s not only great fun for the Kids but also for the Parents and Spectators.
The World Games Party in the Marquee on Saturday evening is legendary. With Live Band Gerry & Gary: The Munich Musicians will wow the crowd with their performance and after a couple of minutes everyone will be dancing on their seats.
This event has been an Institution for a long time for the Hobby Bikers and the Race Calender would not be the same without it. The Marathon Route is signposted the whole year through – perfect for Training for the World Games of Mountainbiking.

Media accreditation
Online at

Successful premier for the Dakine FREERIDE Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm powered by Nissan

Freerider fans pleased with the region and festival atmosphere

Around 9,000 freeride fans stayed overnight in Saalbach Hinterglem last weekend (9 to 11 July) to be there for ethe premier of the Dakine FREERIDE Festival powered by Nissan. Spectakulare side-events, over 40 exhibitors with 86 brands, many well-known professional bikers and three days of unbroken sunshine made for a fantastic festival at one of Europe’s best freeride destinations.
“The premier went really well. We’re very pleased with the way the event ran, the number of visitors and, of course, the wonderful weather in this dream location,” enthuses Monika Weber, event manager for hosts Delius Klasing. Wolfgang Breitfuß, director of the tourist association of Saalbach Hinterglemm, puts it in a nutshell: “This was one of the wildest events we have ever held in Saalbach Hinterglemm.” “This is just how I hoped the FREERIDE magazine festival would be: a relaxed atmosphere, spectacular side-events, wonderful weather and plenty of freeride opportunities for all visitors. My wishes have come true and I am very pleased with this great debut festival,” smiles FREERIDE editor-in-chief Dimitri Lehner, referring to the magazine’s first festival.
The program for the first Dakine FREERIDE Festival in Saalbach Hinterglemm offered top-class freeride sport over three days. Anyone wanting to experience freeriding in its purest form far away from the bustle of the festival site would have found just what they were looking of in the “Big 5 Bike Challenge” (
). This XXL tour, covers an altitude difference of 5,000 meters, but only barely 1,000 of these have to be conquered by the riders from their own strength thanks to the 5 operating cablecars. Over 200 riders took the tour over the weekend.
The side-event for the first day of the festival took place on the Friday evening. In the “Maxxis Dual Eliminator”, 92 riders, both male and female, took to the slalom course designed by trail builder Joscha Forstreuter. After the heats, the 16 fastest men and four fastest women competed in the final that evening. The man against man/woman against woman race provided plenty of excitement for the many hundreds of spectators along the route. The women’s final saw Austria’s Steffi Marth and Angie Hohenwarter, both of whom had come fifth in the 4X European championships of 2010 and 2009 respectively, co head-to-head against each other. In this heat, Angie Hohenwarter managed to take a slight lead in the first third of the trail and held onto this advantage until she reached the finishing line.
The winner of the men’s race in the “Maxxis Dual Eliminator” was Rüdiger Jahnel. The Austrian, who is placed 155th in the world 4x rankings, won out over his compatriot Georg Sieder in an exciting and extremely close-run race. Afterwards, riders and spectators came together to celebrate at the riders’ party in the “Goaßstall”, the place where it all happens in Saalbach Hinterglemm.
The “Maxxis Dual Eliminator” course was once again the center of attention at midday on Saturday, when 64 junior freeriders aged from 6 to 15 had a chance to show off their skills in the first “Kids FREERIDE Challenge”. Extreme biker Bobby Root presided over the prize-giving, handing out lots of gifts from FREERIDE magazine and Dakine.
In the afternoon, in the “YT Best Trick Award” powered by Bagjump, 22 participants - the youngest just 10 years old - offered an impressive air show. The side-event was presented by dirt jumper Marius Hoppensack. The enormous air cushion provided by Bagjump meant that a soft landing was guaranteed. The Dakine FREERIDE Festival in Saalbach Hinterglemm was the first event in which the 15 x 15 meter cushion was used. The jury comprised three YT riders, Dominic Amberger, Tobi Wrobel and Niki Leitner, who finally judged the best jumper to be Patrick Leitner from Vienna. The runner-up was Frenchman Yannick Granieri, while third place went to Jonas Berndt from Bochum. At the end of the competition, Patrick Leitner had two reasons to smile: he had won the event and he had a brand new bike from YT Industries as his prize.
The whole of Hinterglemm was on its feet on the Saturday evening for the “Marzocchi Airstrike” slopestyle contest, anxious not to miss this spectacular show. The course, which was designed by Joscha Forstreuter, was difficult enough. The riders jumped from one hotel roof to the next and wallrides and kickers followed. Thus, they had plenty of opportunities to demonstrate their skills to the judges and to the hundreds of spectators in the heart of Saalbach Hinterglemm. The best-known members of the jury in this slopestyle contest, which is part of the Freeride Mountainbike (FMB) World Tour, were Timo Pritzel, Tibor Simai and Rob J. After the 26 professionals had completed the course twice, it was up to the jury to choose the top 5, who would be allowed one more opportunity to impress the public in a final run.
After a short break for deliberations, the jury agreed: Tobi Wrobel, Peter Henke, Yannick Granieri, Geoff Gulevich and Amir Kabbani would take to the rooftops one last time. The “Marzocchi Airstrike” was judged on the basis of the best of three runs. Amir Kabbani opened his show with a 360 jump from the second rooftop to the large timber landing ramp. He followed this with another perfect 360 before finishing with a perfect double table. However, Frenchman Yannick Granieri also put on a superlative show. His final flip whip crowned a perfect third run. The jury and public were left in no doubt: one of these two riders would take the content title. And that’s exactly the way things worked out. Tobi Wrobel (YT Industries), who is 43rd in the current FMB World Tour rankings gave an excellent performance to take third place. Second place went to Yannick Granieri (Commencal) – 10th in the FMB World Tour rankings. This means that the deserving winner of the “Marzocchi Airstrike” was Amir Kabbani (Mongoose). He is currently ranked third in the FMB Word Tour rankings.
Day three of the Dakine FREERIDE Festival in Saalbach Hinterglemm powered by Nissan also had plenty of delights in store. The highlight of the festival – the “Scott Gang Battle” – was on the agenda. However, while the 398 participants were preparing for the mass downhill, 14 riders saddled up for the “Rose Speedwheelie” contest. The riders picked up speed and lifted their front wheels at a marked point on the steeply sloping road. Among them were FREERIDE editor-in-chief Dimitri Lehner, Timo Pritzel and, of course, the wheelie king himself: Bobby Root. With a speed of 60.60 km/h, there was never any doubt that the Californian world record holder for speedwheelie riding would win the event. Second place was taken by Julian Reder, who was just behind Bobby with 59.5 km/h. Third place went to Morris Fessler with a speed of 58.53 km/h. Former champion Timo Pritzel raced to 4th place. The speed camera recorded a speed of 57.23 km/h for him. Dimitri Lehner achieved 49.65 km/h in his fastest run, taking 11th place. Naturally, having won the event on his back wheel, Bobby Root insisted on completing the course all over again on his front wheel.
The “Scott Gang Battle” was the sporting highlight on the Sunday afternoon and crowned the close of the first DAKINE FREERIDE Festivals powered by Nissan in Saalbach Hinterglemm.
This new race format is a mass start downhill, similar to the popular Avalanche series. There were some spectacular sights for the thousands of spectators at Austria’s first mass downhill. A total of 398 riders from nine nations accepted the challenge of the 1,000 meter altitude differential on the eight kilometer route of the X-Line on Saalbach’s Schattberg and “battled it out” for a total prize purse of euro 3,500. There were separate starting categories for women, masters (over 40’s men) and men in “gangs” of 120 racers each. Following a couple of broad S bends from the Schattberg’s western peak, the starter field fed into the X-Line downhill route - an exciting single trail with only a few decisive places at which overtaking is possible. Of the women, Elke Rabeder from Bad Goisern (Revolution Racing Team) demonstrated the best tactics and stamina, placing herself at the head of the field with a sensational time of 13:23.20 minutes. Carinthian Angie Hohenwarter, die Siegerin of the “Maxxis Dual Eliminator”, followed in second place with 13:25.77 minutes, in front of Allgäu’s Ines Thomas with 13:32.40 minutes. The masters made it perfectly clear that they weren’t ready to be put out to grass just yet: Abbou Frédéric from Team Bionicon took first place with a time of 12:14.86 minutes in front of Thomas Martin (freeride-allgaeu.de, 12:42.82 minutes) and Holger Meyer from Munich with 12:49.66 minutes. Thus, the winners’ rostrum was an all-German affair. The best time of the day was achieved by Rüdiger Jahnel (specialized-mountainbiker.at) from Seewalchen am Attersee. Having already won the “Maxxis Dual Eliminator” on Friday with a clear victory, his sensational time of 11:42.00 demonstrated that he is also unbeatable in the mass downhill. Vorarlberg native Johannes Graf from the Kraftstoff team took silver with a time of 11:43.56 minutes and Mario Sieder of the Austrian national team won the bronze with a time of 11:50.19 Minutes.
Now that the festival is over, its time to start thinking about the next one. Constructive discussions have already been held about the second Dakine FREERIDE Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm powered by Nissan. The dates are already fixed. Next year the freeride community will meet again in Saalbach Hinterglemm from 8 to 10 July.

E-Biking in Saalbach Hinterglemm: Biking with a tail wind!

The multi-faceted offer of bike dorado Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang in Salzburger Land with more than 400 km of Mountain bike trails, pulse-raising single trails, five comfortable cable cars with bike transfer, action packed Bike-Parks and international Events brings Mountain bikers into higher...

An innovation is entering into the Bike Circus Saalbach Hinterglemm and possibly closes a “fitness gap” for some bikers. That leaves the panting behind the rear wheel of the bike Partners fading once and for all as unpleasant memories of past tours and excursions.

E-Biking stands for a torque-controlled mountain bike with pedal assistance proportional to the pedaling power through a small electric motor. The power applied when pushing the pedals is increased up to 200 %. The drive system also allows energy to be recharged during a downhill ride.

Even those who are not as physically strong athletes must no longer be intimidated at the sight of the muscled calves of the bike guides. Mountain biking, with an E-Bike gives them the necessary tail wind and the feeling as if they were riding a tandem with an invisible Tour de France participant as a second man in the saddle. The Bikecenter Bike&Soul now offers a whole armada of E-Bikes in rental.

Saalbach Hinterglemm bike pioneer Bascht Hasenauer often observed among his guests as at the start of a bike tour the well-trained partner said good bye to his girlfriend with a casual „You go ahead, I´ll catch you up!“ „A bike holiday should bring relaxation and fun, and not unnecessary pushing of one´s endurance boundaries, which in the long run probably guarantees more frustration and aching muscles than feelings of happiness and joy. With the E-Bikes we were able to fill this gap in the rental offer.“

M+M= :o) But even top athletes are thrilled by the equation muscular power + motor power = extended touring horizon. Thus, the elevation gain of a day trip can be further extended.

„Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps“ at the new tree top walk

The Alps longest hanging bridge with tree-top walk in the rope course of Saalbach Hinterglemm!

The Ropes Course Saalbach Hinterglemm starts it´s Summer season with new Highlights.
Adventure enthusiasts reach new heights in Saalbach Hinterglemm at the end of the valley at the ropes course next to Lindlingalm and the popular theme parks Teufelswasser and Schnitza's Holzpark. The ropes course with heights of 120 metres and Europe’s longest Zip Wire was officially opened in 2009.
This year owner Reinhold Bauböck will top it all: „In July the new „Baumzipfelweg“ with the „Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps“ will be opened - the highest elevated tree-top walk in Europe. This combination of a one kilometer loop trail in the tree tops with a rope bridge of 200 m length to the height of 40 metres is a unique project world-wide.“
Through massive construction with larch wood staircases, towers, bridges and platforms of the “Baumzipfelweg” is a year-round destination not only a for nature lovers but also for families, school groups and seniors.
Reinhold Bauböck: “The immediate surroundings of the Lindlingalm at the end of the Glemm valley offers a unique setting and excellent infra structure for this project, which aims to awaken and deepen our understanding of the forest, nature, and the entire ecosystem, through direct observation and personal experiences.”
Fly like Superman on Europe's longest zip-line
Another highlight of this rope course is definitely Europe´s longest zip-line, which runs from one side of the valley to the other in a height of 120 m. With four valley-crossings the zip-line reaches a total length of approximately 2 kilometres.
Bauböck: "The zip line is designed to fly over the valley in Superman-style similar to hang gliding, lying on the stomach attached to the wire by a sturdy harness and hooks. After starting above the Lindlingalm you shoot down the wire above the treetops, zigzagging above the valley - including the marvellous panorama.”
Waldrodel and Skybike
Unique stations of the Rope Course are the „Waldrodel“ as well as the „Skybike“ – where adventurous wirewalkers cruise on a wooden sledge and KTM-Mountainbikes between the treetops.
On the individual parcours of the Rope Course you can set off to exciting voyages of discovery in a spectacular natural setting in different altitude levels and degrees of difficulty. As of June 2010 there are two more courses (light and medium level) for climbing, balancing, sliding and swinging on ropes and bridge constructions.
Due to various degrees of difficulty at each level the ropes course is appropriate for all ages (from 130 cm body height) – for people with fear of heights as well as adrenaline junkies.
After the distribution of equipment and a theoretical and practical training on the test course, the challenge will begin and the wood will be experienced from a totally new perspective. Support will be given by professional trainers who have years of experience in sport- and experiential education.
The ropes course Saalbach Hinterglemm is being built in compliance with the applicable standards of the Austrian Industrial Standards for building and operating ropes courses. Moreover, the course will be maintained permanently and checked annually by the Technical Inspection Authority Austria. A new developed safety system ensures that not both karabiners of the safety line can be detached from the wire at a time.
Nature is the ideal field of activity for all ages and is a device for teambuilding as well as personal development.
The most important elements are fun, the association with oneself and the others in the group. Targets arise for the team as well as for the individual and boundaries will be experienced through human sensations.
The Rope Course is discount partner of the Jokercard.

An exciting expedition in the fantasy zone at the Reiterkogel
At the top station of Reiterkogel cable car in Hinterglemm an adventerous themed hiking path is waiting for kids and youngsters. The ascent with the Reiterkogel cable car is free of charge for all JokerCard holders.

In a visual language focussed on this specific target group as in “Lord of the Rings” a 3.5 km circular walking tour whisks the young hikers away to the magic fantasy world of the gremlin Kodok. Your savvy, agility and courage are in demand at the numerous game stations like „The Tragic Rocks“, „The Dark Gorge“ or „The Hidden Message” along the natural trail, and at the same time without one noticing it, the children get to learn about physical laws through playing.

The Story of „Mount Kodok“
The Clown – trademark of Saalbach Hinterglemm – is one central character of this fantasy world. He is the „Good Spirit“ of the mountain and with the help of his magic hat he cares for fortune, joy and good weather. But the gremlin Kodok stole the clown’s magic hat and hides it at a secret place. The kids are the heroes that restore pleasure and fortune to Mount Kodok by recovering and restoring the hat.

And that’s how it works: The brave hunters of the gremlin receive the adventure pass with the purchase of the lift ticket at the bottom station of Reiterkogel cable car. For all guests that stay in a JokerCard Partner Hotel the ascent with the cable cars is included. The entry to the fantasy zone of “Mount Kodok” itself is free of charge. Riddles and games along the trail deliver code symbols that should be noted in the adventure pass. Have all stations been accomplished correctly, then at the end of the hiking trail the complete code to free the magic hat is cracked.

At the bottom station all successful treasure hunters receive a hat-sticker to stick into the adventure pass, as a symbolic reward for their heroic mission. Furthermore all returned adventure passes take part in a lottery.

Marzocchi Airstrike at the Dakine FREERIDE Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm

Marzocchi will be the new title sponsor for the Airstrike event at the Dakine Freeride Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm powered by Nissan. Airstrike is now part of the Freeride MTB World Tour 2010.

There’ll be a lot going on at the Festival premier, scheduled from 9 - 11 July 2010 in the Salzburg region. "Get involved and be amazed" is the motto! Get involved in the Scott Gang Battle, the ultimate mass downhill race from the top of the Schattberg. A course length of 7.5 km and an altitude difference of 1,100 meters provide a real adrenalin rush. The guys from Saalbach have worked really hard in the last few weeks in an effort perfect the course for the gangs! Long-standing champion Holger Meyer is himself involved in the planning of the course and enthuses about a unique experience for the entire freeride scene.
It is also possible to participate in the Maxxis Dual Eliminator. “Finally another mountain bike dual race,” is the common refrain in the MTB forums. Demand is so great that it is possible to register online right away. A word of advice: if you register for the Scott Gang Battle and Maxxis Dual Slalom, the dual is free and if you book your accommodation in a Joker Card Hotel the lift pass is also included.
After many hours of freeriding on the numerous trials in and around Saalbach Hinterglemm, what better entertainment than a great professional event? The Marzocchi Airstrike is something quite new: in a cross between a dirt contest and a district ride, the best riders in the world will negotiate roofs, walls and even the bed of a stream in Hinterglemm. Spectacular jumps from a height of ten meters, fantastic tricks on wall rides and dirts and the crossing of the Saalach river will make the hearts of the visitors to the festival beat faster. Course designer Joscha Forstreuter really has come up with an extraordinary course.
The Marzocchi Airstrike is not just a highlight of the festival, but also part of the new Freeride MTB World Tour 2010, which is a kind of mark of quality. “Marzocchi is the best possible partner for the Airstrike event. A young fresh concept and top quality - these are the attributes that are shared by both the brand and the event,” says project manager Christian Stephan from PLAN B.
A cool freeride event also needs cool riders and real characters. There will be plenty of these about on the relevant weekend. Among others, festival visitors can look forward to seeing Thomas Vanderham, Amir Kabbani, Geoff Gulevich, Wade Simmons, Richie Schley, Bobby Root Tibor Simai, Timo Pritzel, Rob J and many more. Each day the title sponsor Dakine will be holding autograph sessions on its stand. Visitors will not only have the opportunity to meet with the heroes of the sport, but also to accompany one or other of them on an unforgettable tour.

Dakine becomes the title sponsor, Nissan takes over as presenter at the FREERIDE Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm

19 April 2010. A good three months before the premiere of the first FREERIDE Festival in Saalbach Hinterglemm to be held from 9 to 11 July 2010, the event organizers are pleased to announce both a title sponsor and a presenter for the festival. From now on the official name of the event is the...

“We are very pleased to have found two major partners for our event in Saalbach Hinterglemm in sports article manufacturer Dakine and automobile brand Nissan,” says project manager Christian Stephan from Plan B. “Both brands fit in very well with the concept of the event and, looked at from the other perspective, both Dakine and Nissan can make optimum use of the Festival for their communications,” continues Christian Stephan.
Dakine is a leading manufacturer of action sports accessories and has been in business for over 30 years. The company was founded in 1979 in Hawaii. The present headquarters are in Hood River, Oregon, USA. At the beginning of 2010, Dakine was taken over by the successful GSM company (representing brands such as Billabong, Nixon, VonZipper, Element, Kustom, Sector 9).
Dakine is known not just for its high quality backpacks, but also produces a wide range of quality and functional bags and luggage items. Fans of sports such as surfing, windsurfing, skateboarding, snowboarding, free skiing, kiting and biking Dakine products and accessories are a permanent feature of their luggage. For over 10 years now, Dakine has been providing equipment for MTB sports enthusiasts. Well-known riders such as Andrew Shandro, Darren Berrecloth, Steve Romaniuk, Mike Hopkins or Thomas Vanderham are contracted to Dakine and benefit from the company’s innovative products.

Visitors to the FREERIDE Festival can look forward to seeing the new Dakine Bike summer collection 2010 in Saalbach Hinterglemm. These items were designed according to the motto “the best products by riders for riders”. The bike portfolio from Dakine is also available on the net under

The new collection includes backpacks, shorts, jackets, jerseys, bags, gloves and many more accessories. Title sponsor Dakine plans to bring everything to Saalbach Hinterglemm and to present the products on its exhibition stand. In addition, there will be a daily “MEET-THE-PROS” Dakine- signature session where visitors can have posters or jerseys signed by the professional riders.
The presenter of the FREERIDE Festival, Nissan is already an “old hand” as a partner of high-powered mountain bike events. The former UCI MTB World Cup sponsor is remaining faithful to the sport, expanding its involvement with the European MTB festivals by becoming the presenter in Saalbach. Nissan will also be present on site with a large stand, providing a whole lot of on-road fun - but on four wheels rather than two. With its successful seven-seater, the Nissan Quashqai +2, the Japanese car manufacturer has produced a car that is perfectly tailored to the needs of freeriders. Plenty of space for friends and bikes is essential if a car is to make it onto the freerider’s shortlist. Nissan will be on hand to offer visitors a change to take a test drive through the beautiful scenery of the Salzburg region to convince themselves of the many benefits of the car. In addition, all participants can take part in a draw for a weekend with a Nissan Quashqai +2.

All information and registration forms can be found at:

FREERIDE Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm 9 to 11 July 2010

No limits: Festival program has something for everyone!

The preparations for the premiere of the new FREERIDE Festival in Saalbach Hinterglemm from 9 to 11 July 2010 are moving on a pace. In recent weeks, the festival crew has been working hard to ensure that freeride fans from all over the world can spend three unforgettable days of extreme sport in the Salzburg region. Despite the continuing cold weather, the sporting highlights of the event have melted the hearts of the fans. In a series of spectacular events, the riders will fly over rooftops, perform on monster kicker ramps and chase down the steepest slopes. These competitions will be measured in time, height and distance, and, above all, fun!
“Scott Gang Battle” is the ultimate mass downhill event and will make riders and spectators hold their breath on all three days of the festival. This is the only race of its kind in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in 2010, so demand for places has been very high. “We are pleased that this side event has already attracted plenty of interest from the scene,” says project manager Christian Stephan from Plan B with satisfaction. Up to 1,000 riders will have an opportunity to battle it out over the 8-kilometer course for a place in the final on the Sunday.
Visitors will also be able to enjoy the 20x20x4 air cushion provided by Bagjump.com as a soft landing on all three days of the festival. Here even the most terrible jump will not mean that the rider will end up in hospital. In the “YT Best Trick Award powered by Bagjump.com” event, the participants will have to qualify in a series of heats for the big showdown on the Saturday. This contest will draw a lot of attention, and not just because of the huge air cushion from Bagjump.com.
There will be no holds barred at the “Airstrike” event. Trail builder Joscha Forstreuter has designed a superlative course that has a few tricks up its sleeve. That’s why this competition is only open to professional riders. The pros will demonstrate daring drops from the roofs of houses and will jump over monster kicker ramps.
No one in Saalbach Hinterglemm will want to miss the action, particularly not when their own home forms the backdrop to the event. Also anxious not to miss out are professionals Darren Berrecloth, Amir Kabbani, Cam Mc Caul and Andi Wittmann & Friends, who have already confirmed that they will be attending.
Also appearing at the starting line in Saalbach Hinterglemm will be the daddy of all extreme bikers, Bobby Root, who will guarantee some super-fast speeds at the FREERIDE Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm. However, before competitors pitch up on their back wheels for the “Rose Speedwheelie Contest”, they should listen carefully to the king of the wheelies when he reveals some valuable tips and tricks at his workshops. The professionals and amateurs can then take to the course with good conscience, using every ounce of their back-wheeling skill all the way. The winner is the person who can travel furthest on their back wheel. Afterwards, the professionals will turn things up a notch, traveling faster than the speed limits allow. A policeman will be on hand on the course to record the competitors’ speeds using a speed camera. For a change, people will be happy to see the characteristic flash of the speed camera, because rather than adding points to someone’s license it will mean the rider has gained themselves a respectable place on the final table. Bobby Root will then demonstrate why really is king of the road, also showing how it is also possible to take the steep downward slope at speed when traveling on the front wheel alone.
The “Maxxis Dual Eliminator” promises to pit man-against-man, like a “modern western shootout” for bike riders. The dual will take place on a slalom course. As in the old westerns, only the fastest man will win in the “Maxxis Dual Eliminator”.
If you need to catch your breath between events, then why not visit the large exhibition area, which will play host to over 50 exhibitors? As well as gathering information and getting advice, you will also be able to test out the exhibits any time you like.

The trump card for the perfect Biking Holiday: The new Saalbach Hinterglemm JOKER CARD!

The multi-faceted offer of bike dorado Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang in Salzburger Land brings Mountainbikers into higher gears and sets freeriders hearts racing. In Summer 2010 Saalbach Hinterglemm plays its trump card with the JOKER CARD - a gain of diversity and a relief on the holiday budget.

More than 400 km of Mountainbike trails, pulse-raising Single-Trails, five comfortable cable cars with bike transfer, action packed Bike-Parks and international Events make this region Europe´s greatest Bikers Paradise.
The new JOKER CARD of Saalbach Hinterglemm is not just called the "Trump Card for the perfect Biking Holiday” for nothing. It is included during a stay in one of the many selected JOKER CARD partner companies and offers amongst others free access to the cable cars in Saalbach Hinterglemm with X-Line, adidas Freeride and the Big5 Challenge as well as the most beautiful attractions of the region. Furthermore, guests will also benefit from numerous discounts.
Taking your breath away or taking it easy: A true biker´s paradise with perfectly signposted trails for all levels – from "pleasurable & comfortable" to "thrilling & challenging. Whether easy, short Tours at high altitude with panoramic treats, amateur champions´ Marathon Tour, XXL-Freeridetour “Big5Challenge”, demanding single trails or pulse-racing Downhills – there is the perfect trail for all - Soulbikers, ambitious uphillers and daring downhillers.
Go XXL with the Big5 Challenge! The Big5 Challenge is a unique tour in the Alps, for bikers with lots of stamina only. With a descent of 5.000 m and 57 Km length in total this XXL-Tour is a real “must”, not only for fit tour bikers but especially for Freeriders. With the JOKER CARD five comfortable cable cars offer a free and energy-saving ascent with following pulse racing downhills on single trails galore with the breathtaking panorama of Upper Tauern and Leogang Mountain Range.
The BIG-5-BIKE Challenge was upgraded last summer with some technical features: at numerous checkpoints and snapshot-stations along the route the bikers can log this XXL tour and afterwards virtually re-experience it in front of the computer, print in PDF format and become “immortalised” in the Big5 Hall of Fame.
Freeride deluXe – The new X-Line! In addition to the tried and tested adidas Freeride with the Evil Eye Trails (North shores) and the Blue-Line for rookies at Reiterkogel in Hinterglemm, in 2008 Saalbach´s Schattberg opened another highlight for all freeriders with the X-Line. A natural single trail with 6,3 km length and a vertical drop of 1.025 m was built from the peak of Schattberg to the valley station of the fast 8-person-cablecar of Schattberg-Xpress.
The adidas Freeride – the route for pros and ambitious amateurs looking for the thrill of an adrenaline kick - is 1.9 kilometres long and rises to an altitude of 498 metres through varied and, in some cases, quite demanding terrain on natural single trails, root and rock sections, jumps and hairpin bends back down to the centre of Hinterglemm. Appreciated equally by downhillers and freeriders alike is the Blue Line which challenge beginners but also experienced bikers.
The Evil Eye Trails – narrow wooden bridges which snake through the trees at altitude height, similar to the Northshore Trails in Canada – will challenge those who are not afraid of heights and look for thrilling alternatives.
Since its opening in 2001, the Bike Park Leogang established itself as one of the most prestigious bike parks in Europe. The extensive range from freeride over downhill, dual, North Shore or 4X-lines of the Bike Park Leogang is certified by the seal "Kona Groove Approved Bike Park”. For children there is a separate Mini Kids Bike Park for the first training sessions on the bike.
Biker friendly Huts: 30 cosy mountain huts invite you to take a rest and treat oneself with local specialties and refreshments. Several of these huts are awarded with the badge „Biker friendly Hut“. Huts labeled with this badge offer special Biker Menus as well as technical assistance with break-downs – spare tubes and tires, repair kits, air pumps which keep bikers going after technical breakdowns.
Bikers now have the possibility to call up their personal “bikeline” by entering their lift pass number at
at the end of a day’s biking. The “bikeline” traces the selected route within the biking area with an altitude metre profile on a time chart. It contains a precise record of the used lifts, the total of altitude metres overcome as well as an estimation of the kilometres of downhill runs covered.
Tour planning in the world wide web: Already from home bikers can plan their tours – numerous tours are listed in a 3D-map and are also available for free download with elevation profile, roadbooks and GPS-data for the GPS-system. GPS devices are obtainable on-site and will be preloaded with the desired tour.

Roxy Chicken Jam 2010: victory for Enni Rukajärvi

19-year-olf Finn wins the world’s biggest girls-only snowboard event at Saalbach Hinterglemm (AUT)

In a high-class competition, Enni Rukajärvi took victory at the 7th Roxy Chicken Jam 2010 at Saalbach Hinterglemm. At the world’s biggest snowboard event for girls only, the 19-year-old Finn won over double Roxy Chicken Jam champ Cheryl Maas (NED) and Norwegian Kjersti Buaas Oestgaard who took second and third. The leader of the Swatch TTR Women’s ranking list Sarka Pancochova (CZE) ended up in fourth.

“I’m very surprised I won here”, Enni Rukajärvi stated after winning the 6-Star event of the Ticket To Ride (TTR) World Women’s Snowboard Tour at the Nightpark Saalbach Hinterglemm. “I enjoyed the contest, it was really high-level. So good riders, I haven’t seen that before!“ At her first big event for the Roxy team, the Finnish rider convinced the jury with her huge and clean jumps and took the lion’s share of the US$ 50,000 prize-money. At her winning run, she showed a 50/50 at the down box, a frontside 360 tail grab, a backside 540 indy and a cab 540 at the kickers as well as a 50/50 nosepress at the Roxy up-down box.

Due to the high-class field of participants, the jury with Oliver Heinrich, Mone Monsberger and Rob Mathera had a tough job to determine the winner. 36 riders from all over the world took part in the qualifications on Friday. The six best of them then met the 18 seeded riders at the finals on Saturday. In a two-hour jam session, the judges picked the best eight riders to ride the super finals. Here, each rider had three runs with the best one counting. “The level of riding went up a lot”, second-placed Cheryl Maas (NED) said. “A lot of the girls were doing 720’s already in the qualifications which we didn’t see any of the other years. In the finals we also saw a lot of switch riding, like cab 540’s and switch backside spins, and that’s good to see.” Thanks to her backside 720 tail grab in the super-finals, Cheryl Maas was rewarded with US$ 1,500 taking the JBL Progressive Award for the best trick.

Third-ranked Kjersti Buaas Oestgaard from Norway was also thrilled by the event which was held at Saalbach Hinterglemm for the first time this year: ”The park is really good, they really did a good job with this. And the town is so cosy, it’s amazing, we only had to walk five minutes from the hotel to get to the park.” Apart from the freestyle snowboarding world elite, the Roxy Chicken Jam 2010 also attracted a lot of spectators who cheered for the riders enthusiastically. “There were a lot of people watching and that’s entertaining and pushing me to do better”, Kjersti Buaas Oestgaard said.

Also for the first time, the Roxy Chicken Jam was held as a carbon neutral event. The compensation for the effects on the environment and the avoidance of CO2 and garbage were in the foreground. The produced emissions were compensated in co-operation with the Suddenrush Atlantic Rainforest Institution (SRAFRI) saving 1,500 square metres of rain forest in Brazil.

For further information please visit www.roxy.com

Results Roxy Chicken Jam 2010:

1 RUKAJÄRVI ENNI FIN
2 MAAS CHERYL NED
3 OESTGAARD BUAAS KJERSTI NOR
4 PANCOCHOVA SARKA CZE
5 CANDRIAN SINA SUI
6 LARSEN CECILIA SWE
7 WIIK LISA NOR
8 SLADICS CHANELLE USA

Roxy Chicken Jam 2010: creativity and style at the Nightpark

Tension is mounting for the seventh edition of the biggest snowboard event for girls only: at the Roxy Chicken Jam 2010 from the 08th to the 10th of January 2010, snowboard stars like Cheryl Maas (NED), Kjersti Buaas Oestgaard (NOR),Sarka Pancochova (CZE) and Lisa Filzmoser (AUT) will fly high over the kickers of Saalbach Hinterglemm and set the rails of the Nightpark on fire! Parties and live concerts with Bunny Lake and the Wax Wreckaz will additionally contribute to make this weekend a true freestyle festival.
With only a few weeks to go before the Olympic Winter Games 2010 will start and being a 6-star event of the TTR Women’s Snowboard Tour, the Roxy Chicken Jam 2010 is the perfect opportunity for the world’s best female snowboarders to show their tricks under competitive conditions and to determine their position among competitors. Hence, the current leader of the Swatch TTR Women’s Ranking List, Sarka Pancochova (CZE), has confirmed to come to Saalbach Hinterglemm, just as four-time X Games gold medallist Janna Meyen-Weatherby (USA) who already presented herself in good form at the New Zealand Open 2009 where she took second place. The third of that important summer event, Shelly Gotlieb (NZL), will also be at the start, just like double Roxy Chicken Jam winner, Cheryl Maas (NED), the fourth of the TTR ranking, Lisa Wiik (NOR), or stars like Kjersti Buaas Oestgaard (NOR), Sina Candrian (SUI) and Tania Detomas (ITA). Lisa Filzmoser (AUT) from Wels in Upper Austria will try to capture a place on the podium for the local Austrians.
At the Roxy Chicken Jam 2010 at Saalbach Hinterglemm, Salzburg County/Austria, the snow park and the event format will be especially tuned for the needs of the girls. The world’s best female snowboarders will present their show-stopping slopestyle tricks only 200 metres away from the centre of Hinterglemm. At the Nightpark at Unterschwarzachlift, they will prove their creativity and style on two jib sets and a triple kicker line fighting for the US$ 50,000 prize-money.
The Roxy Chicken Jam will be held as a carbon neutral event. The compensation for the effects on the environment and the avoidance of CO2 and garbage are in the foreground. “The Quiksilver group being committed to sustainability and the protection of the environment, it is a great step to have the Roxy Chicken Jam being held as a neutral event”, says Maritxu Darrigrand who is in charge of sustainable development at Roxy and Quiksilver. The emissions that will be produced at the production of artificial snow, at the use of the snow grooming vehicles, at the concert and at the journeys will be compensated in co-operation with the Suddenrush Atlantic Rainforest Institution (SRAFRI). Snowboard stars like Terje Haakonsen (NOR) and Nicolas Mueller (SUI) are actively involved in this project aiming to sustainably preserve the rainforest at the Brazilian Atlantic coastline (further information:
).
Apart from the sporting highlights at the snow park, concerts and DJ sets will make the Roxy Chicken Jam a big freestyle festival. Prior to the prize-giving, Innsbruck’s Wax Wreckaz DJ crew will drop some heavy beats at the Reiterkogel valley station. After the award ceremony, the electro underground collective Bunny Lake from Vienna will rock the crowd. Finally, an after-show party will top off the weekend.
For further information, please visit
and for downloading pictures, TV footage and podcast available on:
Login : roxy
Password : roxypress
Roxy Chicken Jam 2010 FILE

The dozen is full- the most challenging ski tour competition "Mountain Attack" enters its twelfth round on 15th January

Mountain Attack is one of the hardest and most renowned ski tour marathons in which annually over
700 athletes from all over the world take part in.

Ready! Set! Go!
At these "Night Attacks", held in the mountains of Saalbach Hinterglemm, the tour ski athletes experience a true "summit rush" as they try to conquer no less than six summits at 3008m over a route stretching 40 kilometres.
3008m altitude, six summits, 40km!
Those are the facts of Mountain Attack that the 700 competitors are faced with every year. At precisely 16:00, the starting signal will be fired at Dorfplatz in Saalbach. Then it goes at a quick pace to the Schattberg X-Press station. Here the skiers are strapped on and lifted up the 2017m Schattberg where inclines of up to 70% await the athletes. The route is led over the marked and
specially-lit slopes of Skicircus.
When the first athlete reaches the top of the Schattberg summit at about 16:40, darkness starts to fall over Glemmtal. However, a few summits still lay between the participants and the finish line in Saalbach. A comparison that highlights the performance of each marathon participant: an average hiker would be able to complete the same route in about 15 hours!
Mountain Attack has been able to establish itself as the No.1 Ski Tour Event, stretching far beyond the borders of Austria. The Marathon Record stands at 2:27:36.7 and has been held by the Italian Guido Giacomelli since 13.1.2006.
It all began 16 years ago....
Thomas Kleutgen from the PARTYSANEN BERLIN:“It was in December 1993, when we decided to go to Austria with just 60 friends and a few DJs. It was supposed to be a crazy weekend in the snow: a little bit of boarding and partying! None of us thought then, that we would still meet up 15 years later with our friends, a few DJs and a sound system. Meanwhile our friends became a few thousand more and the number of DJs grew to more then 70 acts that are performing on 9 floors! The only thing that remains the same, is the right mix of mountains, boarding, snow and party, and of course the name: RaveOnSnow!“
