Thanks to the support of our pros, the snow parks are super professionally “shaped” daily and entice you to reach for the heights in the truest sense of the word!

The multi-faceted offer of bike dorado Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang in Salzburger Land brings Mountainbikers into higher gears and sets freeriders hearts racing. In Summer 2011 Saalbach Hinterglemm plays its trump card with the JOKER CARD - a gain of diversity and a relief on the holiday budget.

More than 400 km of Mountainbike trails, pulse-raising Single-Trails, five comfortable cable cars with bike transfer, action packed Bike-Parks and international Events make this region Europe´s greatest Bikers Paradise.
The new Jokercard of Saalbach Hinterglemm is included during a stay in one of the many selected partner companies and offers amongst others free access to the cable cars in Saalbach Hinterglemm with X-Line, Milka Freeride, adidas Freeride and the Big5 Challenge as well as the most beautiful attractions of the region. Furthermore, guests will also benefit from numerous discounts.
NEW: MILKA Freeride
For a safe and anxiety free start to the bike sport - the Milka Line snakes along 3.2 kilometres and to an altitude of 380 metres from the middle station, past two snapshot stations and the "Milka Lila Pause“ Maisalm directly to the valley station of the Kohlmais train. Generous elevated bends, beginner friendly small timber elements and a route over moderate terrain offers the ideal playground to "sniff the freeride air" before you get onto the more demanding trails.
Taking your breath away or taking it easy: A true biker´s paradise with perfectly signposted trails for all levels – from "pleasurable & comfortable" to "thrilling & challenging. Whether easy, short Tours at high altitude with panoramic treats, amateur champions´ Marathon Tour, XXL-Freeridetour “Big5Challenge”, demanding single trails or pulse-racing Downhills – there is the perfect trail for all - Soulbikers, ambitious uphillers and daring downhillers.
Go XXL with the Big5 Challenge! The Big5 Challenge is a unique tour in the Alps, for bikers with lots of stamina only. With a descent of 5.000 m and 57 Km length in total this XXL-Tour is a real “must”, not only for fit tour bikers but especially for Freeriders. With the JOKER CARD five comfortable cable cars offer a free and energy-saving ascent with following pulse racing downhills on single trails galore with the breathtaking panorama of Upper Tauern and Leogang Mountain Range.
The BIG-5-BIKE Challenge was upgraded last summer with some technical features: at numerous checkpoints and snapshot-stations along the route the bikers can log this XXL tour and afterwards virtually re-experience it in front of the computer, print in PDF format and become “immortalised” in the Big5 Hall of Fame.
Freeride deluXe – The X-Line! In addition to the tried and tested adidas Freeride with the Evil Eye Trails (North shores) and the Blue-Line for rookies at Reiterkogel in Hinterglemm, Saalbach´s Schattberg offers another highlight for all freeriders with the X-Line. A natural single trail with 6,3 km length and a vertical drop of 1.025 m from the peak of Schattberg to the valley station of the fast 8-person-cablecar of Schattberg-Xpress.
The adidas Freeride – the route for pros and ambitious amateurs looking for the thrill of an adrenaline kick - is 1.9 kilometres long and rises to an altitude of 498 metres through varied and, in some cases, quite demanding terrain on natural single trails, root and rock sections, jumps and hairpin bends back down to the centre of Hinterglemm. Appreciated equally by downhillers and freeriders alike is the Blue Line which challenge beginners but also experienced bikers.
Since its opening in 2001, the Bike Park Leogang established itself as one of the most prestigious bike parks in Europe. The extensive range from freeride over downhill, dual, North Shore or 4X-lines of the Bike Park Leogang is certified by the seal "Kona Groove Approved Bike Park”. For children there is a separate Mini Kids Bike Park for the first training sessions on the bike.
Biker friendly Huts: 30 cosy mountain huts invite you to take a rest and treat oneself with local specialties and refreshments. Several of these huts are awarded with the badge „Biker friendly Hut“. Huts labeled with this badge offer special Biker Menus as well as technical assistance with break-downs – spare tubes and tires, repair kits, air pumps which keep bikers going after technical breakdowns.
Bikers now have the possibility to call up their personal “bikeline” by entering their lift pass number at
at the end of a day’s biking. The “bikeline” traces the selected route within the biking area with an altitude metre profile on a time chart. It contains a precise record of the used lifts, the total of altitude metres overcome as well as an estimation of the kilometres of downhill runs covered.
Tour planning in the world wide web: Already from home bikers can plan their tours – numerous tours are listed in a 3D-map and are also available for free download with elevation profile, roadbooks and GPS-data for the GPS-system. GPS devices are obtainable on-site and will be preloaded with the desired tour.

Your savvy, agility and courage are in demand at the numerous game stations like „The Tragic Rocks“, „The Dark Gorge“ or „The Hidden Message” along the natural trail, and at the same time without one noticing it, the children get to learn about physical laws through playing.

The Story of „Mount Kodok“
The Clown – trademark of Saalbach Hinterglemm – is one central character of this fantasy world. He is the „Good Spirit“ of the mountain and with the help of his magic hat he cares for fortune, joy and good weather. Have all stations been accomplished correctly, then at the end of the hiking trail the complete code to free the magic hat is cracked.
At the bottom station all successful treasure hunters receive a hat-sticker to stick into the adventure pass, as a symbolic reward for their heroic mission. Furthermore all returned adventure passes take part in a lottery.

Brandnew this Summer: Expedition Kodok! The adventure trail “Expedition Kodok” for all treasure hunters and explorers is split up in two expedition-styles. Chose if you are the oldschool-pirate that explores the trail with a treasure map and compass or if you are more the type of a high-tech-explore equipped with GPS-device and coordinates. The story behind the adventure: Kodok has hidden magic crystals that supply him with witchery – discover the crystals to disempower the evil Kodok.

Traditional Bread Baking
At the Panoramaalm and at the local folk museum (Heimathaus) in Saalbach, one can learn traditional bread baking and taste the difference from the products at the supermarket. Experiment with various ingredients and herbs and baking in a stone oven as the anticipation builds up to taking the first bite.
Majestic Wildlife
Alexander Röck accompanies guests who are interested to feed the wild animals nearby the Panoramaalm, where one can observe the deer at close quarters. Every Monday one can also see falcons, buzzards, owls and golden eagle at the bird of prey display where the Falconers give an interesting insight to the world of birds of prey and one can watch these majestic birds in flight.
An enjoyable dinner with regional products of the highest quality, a relaxing massage or treatment in a wellness hotel or magical evening on the mountain meadows or walking underneath the starry skies. A perfect end to a day in slow (e) motion.

New alpine hiking high-light in Summer 2011: „Seven Summits of Saalbach Hinterglemm“

“Ascents over steep mountainsides and rugged, untouched nature to secluded summits - breathe deeply and with every step break away from the humdrum of your everyday life, feel your heart beat with the view over the horizon and simply know you´re finally there.” This feeling of liberty and lust for life awaits the alpine hiker on the summits of Saalbach Hinterglemm.
A breathtaking view of the snowcovered summits of the Hohen Tauern with it´s 3000 metre peaks and the rocky outlines of the Kalkalpen accompanies the hikers at every turn along the mountain ridges on long-distance hikes like Saalachtaler Höhenweg or Pinzgauer Spaziergang in an altitude from 1.003 m to 2.100 m. The silence is filled with the pulsing of endorphins in the veins.
Further alpine highlights are hikes on mountains like Tristkogel or Spielberghorn – these lead into exposed terrain and request endurance and alpine experience – or transboundary trekking-tours like the trail over Sonnspitze to Kitzbühel in Tyrol.
As of summer 2011, a brand new challenge awaits all those who are in good physical condition, are sure-footed and experienced mountain hikers: the “Seven Summits of Saalbach Hinterglemm”. This nearly 24-kilometer long hiking tour over the highest summits of the Glemmtal, with truly alpine character and a huge 1,413 meters of altitude, is a tour for the tried-and-tested individualists who are physically fit mountaineers.
The start of the Seven Summits Tour is easily reached by the cable car Schattberg xPress. The well marked path leads from Stemmerkogel over Hochkogel to the most difficult climb of the tour – the Hochsaalbachkogel. The tour continues over Bärensteigkogel, Manlitz- and Mittagskogel to the final highlight and highest peak of the Glemmvalley, the Geißstein with 2.363 m. Some extra power reserves should also be scheduled for the difficult descent of the Birgl to the end of the valley.
There are no cabins to cater the hikers along the route, so a good preparation is essential: the tour should only be started well equipped, with sufficient food and water in the backbag and planning concerning weather or alternative options of descents.
Saalbach Hinterglemm is the base-camp and exhausted hikers regenerate in excellent Wellness Hotels and Pensions and recharge their batteries for the next peak ace.

E-Biking in Saalbach Hinterglemm: Biking with a tail wind!

muscular power + motor power = extended touring horizon

E-Biking in Saalbach Hinterglemm: Biking with a tail wind!
The multi-faceted offer of bike dorado Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang in Salzburger Land with more than 400 km of Mountain bike trails, pulse-raising single trails, five comfortable cable cars with bike transfer, action packed Bike-Parks and international Events brings Mountain bikers into higher gears and sets freeriders hearts racing. E-Biking now completes the offer for all Soulbikers and epicures.
An innovation is entering into the Bike Circus Saalbach Hinterglemm and possibly closes a “fitness gap” for some bikers. That leaves the panting behind the rear wheel of the bike Partners fading once and for all as unpleasant memories of past tours and excursions: Saalbach Hinterglemm is now a movelo-region.
E-Biking stands for a torque-controlled mountain bike with pedal assistance proportional to the pedaling power through a small electric motor. The power applied when pushing the pedals is increased up to 200 %. The drive system also allows energy to be recharged during a downhill ride.
Even those who are not as physically strong athletes must no longer be intimidated at the sight of the muscled calves of the bike guides. Mountain biking, with an E-Bike gives them the necessary tail wind and the feeling as if they were riding a tandem with an invisible Tour de France participant as a second man in the saddle.
M+M=:-) But even top athletes are thrilled by the equation muscular power + motor power = extended touring horizon. Thus, the elevation gain of a day trip can be further extended. E-Bikes can be rented in bikeshops in Saalbach Hinterglemm.

2nd Dakine FREERIDE Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm powered by Nissan vom 8. bis 10. Juli 2011

Where skiers and snowboarders swish along the white Pistes in winter, in the snow and frost free times the mountain bikers and freeriders take over again. The high point for 2011: The Dakine FREERIDE Festivals Saalbach Hinterglemm powered by Nissan

Time for the second round: 2nd Dakine FREERIDE Festival Saalbach Hinterglemm powered by Nissan from 8 to 10 July 2011
Freeride-Paradise Saalbach Hinterglemm
After the successful festival premiere in 2010 the popular tourist location in the Austrian state of Salzburg will once again become a Mecca for the international freeride scene from 8 to 10 July. Over 10.000 freeride fans will be expected again this year. Over 60 exhibitors with 100 brands will be represented and will present their new products and offer them to "try out" free of charge. For the "who's who" of the international freeride scene the Dakine FREERIDE Festival 2011 is a fixed date on the event calendar.
The programme for the second edition of the Dakine FREERIDE Festival in Saalbach Hinterglemm once again offers first class freeride sport on all three days in 2011. Those who want to experience the purest form of freeriding far from the hustle and bustle of the festival can't go wrong with the "Big 5 Bike Challenge" (
). The gondola supported XXL tour at an altitude of 5.000 metres, whereby only an altitude of 1.000 metres must be overcome under your own steam, will once again be used by many freeriders during the festival weekend.
On Friday evening the first side event is on the programme. In "Maxxis Dual Eliminator" it's man on man and woman on woman in exciting double races next to each other. By drawing lots it is decided whether it will come to a duel between two pro bikers, two friends or even a fight between pro and hobby biker on the 500 metre long slalom route built specially for this event. For the many spectators on the route the final runs on Friday evening will be an exciting start to the festival. Finally the participants and spectators will meet at the rider's party in the legendary "Goaßstall".
On Saturday morning another freeride route will be officially opened with the new "Milka Line" on the Kohlmais in Saalbach (Press conference: 9. July 2011, 9.30 at the middle station Kohlmais).
The family-friendly freeride route powered by Milka runs over 3.2 kilometres from the middle station, past two snapshot stations and the "Milka Lila Pause" Maisalm over easy terrain directly to the valley station of the Kohlmais train. On Saturday lunchtime the junior bikers will also be giving it gas on the race track of the „Maxxis Dual Eliminator“. In the "Kids FREERIDE Challenge" children from 6 to 16 compete with each other. Of course the kids don't go home empty handed. There are cool prizes and trophies awaiting the young freeriders.
At the "YT Best Trick Award" powered by Bagjump each participant can be chosen as king of the air on Saturday afternoon. The huge 10 x 10 metre air cushion from Bagjump ensures a soft landing after every jump. The air cushion is available to visitors on all three festival days.
The urban slope style contest "Dakine Airstrike" on Saturday evening promises to be an absolute festival highlight. The course by Joschua Forstreuter and Pierre Edouard Ferry is a good one once again and has been extended for 2011 and promises even more excitement. The pro freeriders jump from one hotel roof to the next - wall rides and kickers follow. It is not for nothing that the spectacular contest "Dakine Airstrike" was accepted into the list of selected tour stops of the FMB World Tour (Silver status). Finally the band "se'plotfish" ensures a party atmosphere with a live concert on the Red Bull brandwagon. Also in 2011 once again many top riders such as last year's champion Amir Kabbani, Geoff Gulevich, Szymon Godziek, Simon Hofstädter, Mitch Chubey or Sam Reynolds have said that they are coming.
The last festival day is also going to be a good one. At the "Rose Speedwheelie Contest" the participants do a wheelie along a 150 metre track into a speed trap. For wheelie king Bobby Root the measuring device showed the fastest speed at over 60 km/h in 2010. But the competition has not been asleep and have prepared themselves well for 2011.
On Sunday afternoon the "Scott Gang Battle" will once again be the sporting high point and crowning conclusion to the second DAKINE FREERIDE Festival powered by Nissan in Saalbach Hinterglemm. This new race format is a down hill race with a mass start - similar to the popular avalanche series.
There were spectacular pictures in 2010 for the thousands of spectators at Austria's first mass downhill. A total of 398 starters from nine nations set themselves the challenge of the eight kilometre and 1.000 metre altitude route on the X-line of the Saalbach Schattberg and battled for a total of €3.500 prize money. This year the organiser predicts over 500 participants.

The incomparable panoramic views of the ‚Hohe Tauern‘ to the ‚Leoganger‘ stone mountains will accompany the cacher step by step through the Glemmtaler mountain world. 450 kms of marked hiking trails and numerous caches lead to the most beautiful places in the valley. Four lifts bring our guests swiftly and with the new JokerCard free of charge just that little closer to the higher situated caches. The JOKER CARD Saalbach Hinterglemm is included when one chooses a JokerCard partner-accommodation and offers free access to the lifts and most popular attractions in the region.
Around 30 mountain huts ensure that one can have a tasty snack or refreshment whilst on a cache tour and at some of the huts a cache can be logged.
Susanne Mitterer from the Events Department of the Tourist Office Saalbach Hinterglemm knows about the fascination of the „Scavenger Hunt 2.0“: „I am a Geocacher myself for almost a year now. I am inspired by the philosophy of Geocaching: it is motivating me to head out into nature - even when the weather is not at it’s best. When I am on cache-tour with my small nephew, we explore on equal opportunities and the many kilometres covered are easily forgotten in the heat of the treasure hunt. It’s like a virus – once you have been infected you are always searching for the next cache“.
The History of Geocaching
It started 11 years ago in America where the first Geocache was hidden and a worldwide game began via Internet – up to date there are around 5.000.000 participants worldwide. In Europe alone there are 2,500.000 cachers and registration is growing on a daily basis. Geocaching (from geo „Earth“ and the English word cache „secret location“) is best defined as an electronic scavenger hunt or paper chase.
Rainer Edlinger, co-organizer of the Geocaching MEGA-Event in Saalbach Hinterglemm: „The hidden places of the caches are published on the internet by geographic coordinates and each finder enters a successful ‚find‘ into the logbook of the cache. Afterwards, the cache is put back in exactly the same place that it was found. The find then is noted under
and can be accompanied by a photo. Naturally, for the MEGA Event there will be special caches of all different levels of difficulties. It is also important that the location is accessible for all and not in a protected or private area. Cachers are environmentally conscious and hence the motto of the final day of the MEGA Event is „Cache in – Trash out!“. Therefore we will all clean up an area of rubbish and afterwards a cache will be hidden in memory of this event.”

13. Ski Tour Marathon Mountain Attack on 14 January 2011

Now hits thirteen! The hardest ski tour race „Mountain Attack“ takes place on 14 January 2011 with a new race in the race in its thirteenth round!

“Mountain Attack” is one of the hardest and most renowned ski tour marathons in which over 700 athletes, from all over the world, annually take part. New this year is the Schattberg Race, for all sprinters and Attack beginners.
On with the skins! Ready! The climb begins!
With the “Night Attacks”, held in the mountains of Saalbach Hinterglemm, the tour ski athletes experience a true “summit rush” as they attempt to conquer no less than six summits at a height of 3, 008 meters, over a route stretching 40 kilometers.
3,008 metres high, six summits, 40 kilometres!
These are the facts of the Mountain Attacks that the 700 competitors are faced with every year. At exactly 16:00, the starting shot will be fired in Dorfplatz in Saalbach. The skiers then sprint with skis in their hands, up to the Schattberg X-press valley station. The skiers are strapped on and lifted up the 2,017 meters, where the Schattberg awaits with inclines of 70% gradient.
When the first athlete reaches the top of the Schattberg summit at around 16:40, darkness begins to fall over the Glemmtal. However, a few summits still lie between the participants and the finish line in Saalbach. A comparison that highlights the performance of each marathon participant: an average hiker would be able to complete the same route in approximately 15 hours!
New 2011: The Schattberg Race
Following the request by several ski tour fans and due to the rapid development of ski touring, the organizers have decided to extend the Mountain Attack by a module. As well as the long distances (marathon and ski tour), 2011 will offer a short distance with a limited number of participants, for the first time: The MyPhone Schattberg Race presented by Salzburgerland.com.
The start will also take place in Dorfplatz in Saalbach directly after the athletes in the marathon and ski tour have started. The ascent reaches 1,015 meters, with the summit of the Schattberg being the goal.
The Mountain Attack has established itself as the No. 1 Ski Tour Event, stretching far beyond the borders of Austria. The Marathon Record stands at 2:27:36.7, and has been held by the Italian Guido Giacomelli since 13.01.2006.
