Boarders and skiers can get their adrenalin kick this winter at the new Boarder-  and Skiercross on the Bernkogel. This 500m-long run was planned and built by none other than Boardercross World Championship legend Mario Fuchs. In the

“Learn to Ride Park” on the Bernkogel, beginners can try out their first moves on the boxes and kickers.

The Monster Energy NIGHTPARK presented by Roxy at the Unterschwarzach in Hinterglemm, the NITRO Snowpark aT the Asitz fun run in Leogang and the brand new “Learn to Ride Park” at the Bernkogel will get your freestyle hearts racing at the Ski Circus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang, delighting skiers and audience alike!

Thanks to the support of our pros, the snow parks are super professionally “shaped” daily and entice you to reach for the heights in the truest sense of the word! As well as the 3 snow parks, 55 highly-modern cable cars and over 200 snowy kilometres of perfect pistes guarantee endless fun and a snow guarantee right into the new year!

The Monster Energy NIGHTPARK presented by Roxy stretches from the mountain to the valley station of the Unterschwarzach cableway in Hinterglemm. This “U-Bahn” brings freestylers quickly from the centre of Hinterglemm to the park entrance on the mountain. The extended and improved floodlit facilities provide perfect light conditions and turns night into day for freestylers – whether boarders or skiers. Here, you can thus work on your moves until 9.30 pm.  Last winter the snowpark was also substantially enlarged and new features added during the renovation of the lift facilities. A tip for night-flyers, the daytime ski pass is already valid from 3 pm on the previous day.


With one easy, medium and pro-line each, there is something for each level and “flavour”. Various obstacles, such as big air kickers, spine, wall-ride as well as diverse rails and boxes make the snowpark a real freestyle paradise! The boys at Snowpark Design ensure the perfect condition of the park twice a day and the chill area invites you to hang out and get a load of the other’s tricks! Another “place to be” is the NITRO SNOWPARK at the Asitz fun run in Leogang! Optimum shaped obstacles with corners, big air kickers as well as diverse rails and boxes offer great training possibilities – also for local hero and Series Air&Style winner Stefan Gimpl. The shapers, Reini and Erwin from “HU-Cooperation” keep the NITRO Snowpark at its best all winter and have made the obstacles face south for the best light and terrain conditions.  This winter in the jib area, there are various rails and obstacles such as picnic table, butter box and the seesaw at easy level.

The Ski Circus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang has the boards zooming over 200 km of fantastically groomed pistes. From the world championship black runs, waved mogul runs, ski-movie speed runs right up to boardercross, the kids will be in their element.

In three hip snowparks, the scene is set for “Big Air”: In the Nitro Snowpark on the Asitz in Leogang and in the Monster Energy Nightpark presented by Roxy (daily to 9.30 pm) at the Unterschwarzach in Hinterglemm. There’s also the brand new “Learn to Ride Park” on the Bernkogel, where beginners can also practice their freestyle moves. The new Boarder- and Skiercross on the Bernkogel entices the European elite among crossboarders into the Glemmtal in March while the brand new cableways (8-seat gondola Bernkogelbahn I and 6-seat chair lift Reiterkogel Ost) ensure a speedy ascent from the centre of Saalbach.

NEW ski & surf: From this winter onwards you can ride the waves in the snow on our two wave runs at the Asitz Peak Run and the Sport Run Asitzkogel 2000. There’s pure speed at the Speed Run in the Nightpark on the U-Bahn in Hinterglemm and two SkiMovie runs provide Hollywood glamour at the Ski Circus. The brand new Flying Fox XXL in Leogang is one of the longest and fastest steel slides in the world and reaches a speed of 130 km/h for daring thrill-seekers.

At sunset, the action has only just begun! Floodlight pistes with snowpark and speed tubing, ice go-kart, snowmobile park, and sliding fun on floodlit tobogganing runs turn night into day for the tireless. For nature-lovers and the romantic this winter, the Baumzipfelweg treetop path offers endless views onto the treetop regions at the end of the valley of Saalbach Hinterglemm. The combination of the one kilometre-long round tour of the treetop path with its 200 m bridge 40 m high is a unique project worldwide.

The power of TEN: also this coming winter, the Ski Circus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang, the Schmitten in Zell am See and the Kitzsteinhorn in Kaprun is offering all kids and teens under age 19 a Saturday ski pass for only ten euro. This cool “power of TEN” special is valid all winter on every Saturday between 26.11.2011 and 01.05.2012.  These three skiing areas are big on kids and teens. We have invested healthily into the “New Generation” project in the past three years.  “The Power of Ten” offers the perfect accompanying ticket. The “(Z)Ten” message behind this is  “enlighteningly”, simple and clear:

Skiing and snowboarding trains the motor skills, activates the metabolism and cognitive performance and most of all, it’s fun! For the youngest generation of racing talent, there’s the Montelino Ski Pass, kids born 2006 and later can ride on all the lifts for free. Kids (born 1996 to 2005) pay only about half of the adult price in winter and for teens this year (born 1993 to 1995), as well as the  “Power of TEN” tickets, there is  also about 25 % off the adult price.

Bonus Skiing days in December: On the Bonus Skiing days, children (born 1996 and later) get a free ski pass on Sundays and in the pre season period! Valid on 04.12., 11.12., and on 18.12.2011!

Kids for free: From 17th March 2012 per booking of one adult, one child up to age 14 can stay in the room of the parent for free. Each additional child gets a 50 % discount. Children born 1996 and later get a free ski pass when the parent buys a 3-day ski pass.

With a valid ski pass, the floodlit piste and floodlit funpark is also open after sundown for skiing and boarder fun. And for all fans of sliding fun, the day-ski-pass is also valid for the floodlit tobogganing run at the Reiterkogel up to 9.30 pm.

The world’s best female snowboarders return to Saalbach Hinterglemm, Austria: on Friday February 10th, 2012, for the ROXY SNOW PRO to be held at the Nightpark Saalbach Hinterglemm! This 5-star TTR slopestyle event will showcase the women’s world snowboarding talent and skills in front of an inspired crowd. Top-notch riders like Torah Bright (AUS), Kjersti Buaas (NOR), Aimee Fuller (GBR) and Cheryl Maas (NED) will fight for the US$ 25,000 prize-purse. The finals of this thrilling competition will be held at night under a floodlit course. Following the prize-giving, the celebrations will continue with all the Pro’s at a live concert and a closing party in to the early hours!

ROXY SNOW PRO is a unique women-only event with the snow park and the contest format exactly meeting the demands of female snowboarders. The event will begin with an open qualification on Friday morning where 30 riders will fight for their place in the main session. The main session with 25 riders, including the qualified amateurs and seeded pros, will be held on Friday afternoon. The 10 best riders will advance to the finals on Friday night.

“We are very happy to be back in Saalbach Hinterglemm”, said Stine Brun Kjeldaas,Roxy Europe Marketing Manager and female snowboarding icon. “Roxy had a very successful event here in the past and we are permanently cooperating with the Nightpark, so it was a natural choice to hold this exceptional event, part of the TTR Women’s World Snowboard Tour, at Saalbach Hinterglemm.” Located only 200 metres from the centre of Saalbach Hinterglemm, Nightpark at Unterschwarzachlift is the perfect spot for this first-class snowboarding event. Thanks to its location near the village centre and the valley station lifts, big crowds are expected for qualification and the night finals.

The ROXY SNOW PRO 2012 will be held as a carbon neutral event. The CO2 emissions given off due to the event organization, the production of artificial snow and the use of the snow grooming vehicles will be compensated in co-operation with the Atlantic Rainforest Institution (ARFI).

For children there is a separate Mini Kids Bike Park for the first training sessions on the bike. Biker friendly Huts: 30 cosy mountain huts invite you to take a rest and treat oneself with local specialties and refreshments. Several of these huts are awarded with the badge „Biker friendly Hut“. Huts labeled with this badge offer special Biker Menus as well as technical assistance with break-downs – spare tubes and tires, repair kits, air pumps which keep bikers going after  technical breakdowns. This nearly 24-kilometer long hiking tour over the highest summits of the Glemmtal, with truly alpine character and a huge 1,413 meters of altitude, is a tour for the  tried-and-tested individualists who are physically fit mountaineers.
The start of the Seven Summits Tour is easily reached by the cable car Schattberg xPress. The well marked path leads from Stemmerkogel over Hochkogel to the most difficult climb of the tour – the Hochsaalbachkogel. The tour continues over Bärensteigkogel, Manlitz- and Mittagskogel to the final highlight and highest peak of the Glemmvalley, the Geißstein with 2.363 m. Some extra power reserves should also be scheduled for the difficult descent of the Birgl to the end of the valley.
There are no cabins to cater the hikers along the route, so a good preparation is essential:  the tour should only be started well equipped, with sufficient food and water in the backbag and planning concerning weather or alternative options of descents. Along a scenic walking trail from top to middle station through woods and alpine meadows the kids search for the clown´s lost friends and toys within a beautiful nature environment.  From the spider web and the target-throwing game, to the giant snake Paula and the Punch and Judy Show. From the squirrel nest with the golden nut to the huge slide and the circus arena – there is plenty to discover and experience for the children. ‚Healing Herbs‘ Workshops at the Reiterkogel
Together with the TEH-Verein (Traditional European Alternative Medicines/Unesco World Cultural Heritage) werden one time in the month a walking tour of the ‚healing herb‘ trail at the Reiterkogel.  An easygoing walk with a professional leader to collect herbs and gemeinsam bestimmt.  The herbal garden alongside the Reiteralm has a selection of regional  healing herbs and signs, so that one can also smell, feel and identify the lesser known herbs.  At the Reiteralm one can, with the help of a TEH practitioner, process the herbs into effective ointments and lotions.
Creativity „Back to the Roots“ at Carpenter’s Woodpark (Schnitza’s Holzpark)
A weekly workshop with  the carpenter ‚Herbert‘ at his woodpark at the end of the valley (Talschluss) offers all age groups the chance to show their creative side.  You can look for the „ingredients“ yourself on a relaxing stroll alongside the river ‚Saalach‘ , such as steons, driftwood,  cones and other treasures to contribute to an artistic picture, lampshade or sculpture.
A particular weekly highlight at the wookpark  is a visit from the nature expert „Survival Mike“ Sattler.  Through a demonstration he will illustrate the most important codes of practice for the majority of dangers in the mountains.  Both big and small situations can be highlighted in an authentic surroundings of the woodpark on how one can deal with these situations with natural aids: fire, ropes or bowls.
Eye to Eye with the Squirrals
Next to the Schnitza’s woodpark, you can find the ‚Treetop Path‘ (Baumzipfelweg) – a path between the treetops.  You start from the Lindlingalm over the Golden Gate Bridge of the Alps, a 200 metre hanging bridge up to 40 metres high.  After crossing the bridge the 650 m long „Treetop path“ – a rugged loop road made from solid larch wood which takes you between the treetops over stairsways, towers and bridges over several storeys up to 30 m above ground level.  It is not just about breathing here, but also taking in the fragrance of the treetops, opening the eyes and listening to the wind in the treetops.

The high point for 2011: The Dakine FREERIDE Festivals Saalbach Hinterglemm powered by Nissan Freeride-Paradise Saalbach Hinterglemm After the successful festival premiere in 2010 the popular tourist location in the Austrian state of Salzburg will once again become a Mecca for the international freeride scene from 8 to 10 July. Over 10.000 freeride fans will be expected again this year. Over 60 exhibitors with 100 brands will be represented and will present their new products and offer them to "try out" free of charge. For the "who's who" of the international freeride scene the Dakine FREERIDE Festival 2011 is a fixed date on the event calendar.    The programme for the second edition of the Dakine FREERIDE Festival in Saalbach Hinterglemm once again offers first class freeride sport on all three days in 2011. Those who want to experience the purest form of freeriding far from the hustle and bustle of the festival can't go wrong with the "Big 5 Bike Challenge" (www.big-5.at). The gondola supported XXL tour at an altitude of 5.000 metres, whereby only an altitude of 1.000 metres must be overcome under your own steam, will once again be used by many freeriders during the festival weekend. On Friday evening the first side event is on the programme. In "Maxxis Dual Eliminator" it's man on man and woman on woman in exciting double races next to each other. By drawing lots it is decided whether it will come to a duel between two pro bikers, two friends or even a fight between pro and hobby biker on the 500 metre long slalom route built specially for this event. For the many spectators on the route the final runs on Friday evening will be an exciting start to the festival. Finally the participants and spectators will meet at the rider's party in the legendary "Goaßstall". On Saturday morning another freeride route will be officially opened with the new "Milka Line" on the Kohlmais in Saalbach (Press conference: 9. July 2011, 9.30 at the middle station Kohlmais). The family-friendly freeride route powered by Milka runs over 3.2 kilometres from the middle station, past two snapshot stations and the "Milka Lila Pause" Maisalm over easy terrain directly to the valley station of the Kohlmais train. On Saturday lunchtime the junior bikers will also be giving it gas on the race track of the „Maxxis Dual Eliminator“. In the "Kids FREERIDE Challenge" children from 6 to 16 compete with each other. Of course the kids don't go home empty handed. There are cool prizes and trophies awaiting the young freeriders.  At the "YT Best Trick Award" powered by Bagjump each participant can be chosen as king of the air on Saturday afternoon. The huge 10 x 10 metre air cushion from Bagjump ensures a soft landing after every jump. The air cushion is available to visitors on all three festival days. The urban slope style contest "Dakine Airstrike" on Saturday evening promises to be an absolute festival highlight. The course by Joschua Forstreuter and Pierre Edouard Ferry is a good one once again and has been extended for 2011 and promises even more excitement. The pro freeriders jump from one hotel roof to the next - wall rides and kickers follow. It is not for nothing that the spectacular contest "Dakine Airstrike" was accepted into the list of selected tour stops of the FMB World Tour (Silver status). Finally the band "se'plotfish" ensures a party atmosphere with a live concert on the Red Bull brandwagon. Also in 2011 once again many top riders such as last year's champion Amir Kabbani, Geoff Gulevich, Szymon Godziek, Simon Hofstädter, Mitch Chubey or Sam Reynolds have said that they are coming. The last festival day is also going to be a good one. At the "Rose Speedwheelie Contest" the participants do a wheelie along a 150 metre track into a speed trap. For wheelie king Bobby Root the measuring device showed the fastest speed at over 60 km/h in 2010. But the competition has not been asleep and have prepared themselves well for 2011. On Sunday afternoon the "Scott Gang Battle" will once again be the sporting high point and crowning conclusion to the second DAKINE FREERIDE Festival powered by Nissan in Saalbach Hinterglemm. This new race format is a down hill race with a mass start - similar to the popular avalanche series.
There were spectacular pictures in 2010 for the thousands of spectators at Austria's first mass downhill. A total of 398 starters from nine nations set themselves the challenge of the eight kilometre and 1.000 metre altitude route on the X-line of the Saalbach Schattberg and battled for a total of €3.500 prize money. This year the organiser predicts over 500 participants. When I am on cache-tour with my small nephew, we explore on equal opportunities and the many kilometres covered are easily forgotten in the heat of the treasure hunt.  It’s like a virus – once you have been infected you are always searching for the next cache“. The History of Geocaching It started 11 years ago in America where the first Geocache was hidden and a worldwide game began via Internet – up to date there are around 5.000.000 participants worldwide.  In Europe alone there are 2,500.000 cachers and registration is growing on a daily basis.  Geocaching (from geo „Earth“ and the English word cache „secret location“) is best defined as an electronic scavenger hunt or paper chase.
Rainer Edlinger, co-organizer of the Geocaching MEGA-Event in Saalbach Hinterglemm: „The hidden places of the caches are published on the internet by geographic coordinates and each finder enters a successful ‚find‘ into the logbook of the cache.  Afterwards, the cache is put back  in exactly the same place that it was found.  The find then is noted under www.geocaching.com and can be accompanied by a photo.  Naturally, for the MEGA Event there will be special caches of all different levels of difficulties. It is also important that the location is accessible for all and not in a protected or private area.  Cachers are environmentally conscious and hence the motto of the final day of the MEGA Event is „Cache in – Trash out!“.  Therefore we will all clean up an area of rubbish and afterwards a cache will be hidden in memory of this event.”

The hardest ski tour race „Mountain Attack“ takes place on 14 January 2011 with a new race in the race in its thirteenth round! On with the skins!  Ready!  The climb begins!
With the “Night Attacks”, held in the mountains of Saalbach Hinterglemm, the tour ski athletes experience a true “summit rush” as they attempt to conquer no less than six summits at a height of 3, 008 meters, over a route stretching 40 kilometers. 3,008 metres high, six summits, 40 kilometres!
These are the facts of the Mountain Attacks that the 700 competitors are faced with every year.  At exactly 16:00, the starting shot will be fired in Dorfplatz in Saalbach.  The skiers then sprint with skis in their hands, up to the Schattberg X-press valley station.  The skiers are strapped on and lifted up the 2,017 meters, where the Schattberg awaits with inclines of 70% gradient. When the first athlete reaches the top of the Schattberg summit at around 16:40, darkness begins to fall over the Glemmtal.  However, a few summits still lie between the participants and the finish line in Saalbach.  A comparison that highlights the performance of each marathon participant: an average hiker would be able to complete the same route in approximately 15 hours!
New 2011: The Schattberg Race
Following the request by several ski tour fans and due to the rapid development of ski touring, the organizers have decided to extend the Mountain Attack by a module.  As well as the long distances (marathon and ski tour), 2011 will offer a short distance with a limited number of participants, for the first time:  The MyPhone Schattberg Race presented by Salzburgerland.com. The start will also take place in Dorfplatz in Saalbach directly after the athletes in the marathon and ski tour have started.  The ascent reaches 1,015 meters, with the summit of the Schattberg being the goal.
The Mountain Attack has established itself as the No. 1 Ski Tour Event, stretching far beyond the borders of Austria.  The Marathon Record stands at 2:27:36.7, and has been held by the Italian Guido Giacomelli since 13.01.2006. DATES & FACTS
